This picture is of Barack Obama, who is our current president, and the one who released the proclamation
Summary- During National Farm- City Week we celebrate the core contributions our farmers have made, as well as considering the endless possibilities for advancing agriculture in the future. Our farmers and ranchers provide us with markets full of fresh and healthy produce. Obama, earlier this year, established the White House Rural Council, and by teaming up with rural America, has been able to "cultivate local and regional food systems, empower young and beginner farmers, and support rural businesses." The government is also trying to help with the advancements in renewable energy production. "...We are working to produce more renewable, domestic biofuels and to help bring solar panel arrays and wind turbines to rural businesses." By doing these things we can create more jobs, improve energy security, and hopefully help the income of farmers.
Quote-"NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 18 through November 24, 2011, as National Farm-City Week. I call upon all Americans to reflect on the vital contributions of those who dedicate their lives to promoting our Nation's agricultural abundance and environmental stewardship."
Opinion/ reflection- I found this proclamation very interesting, and think it's nice we are trying to help our nations farmers, and the environment at the same time! I hope that we can help to carry out with some of the resourceful options listed in this summary. I remember when I was a little girl, and my parents would take me and my cousins in our little overalls to the farm for making scare crows. Farms are something that have existed for hundreds of years, and will continue to go on and advance in our modern day society, hopefully more energy efficient.
Questions-
1) If given the option, do you think most farmers would switch to the alternative energy sources, why or why not?
2) How far away do you think we are from achieving some of the goals listed in this summary?
3) Do you think Barack Obama should be focussing on more productive ways to help our energy economy then helping farms?

This topic is very important. Agraculture impacts all of our lives because we get the majority of our food from their. It is very good that now the president of the US is taking action to preserve it because it will influence many others to apreciate our farms. In my life, my family knows many people who own farms and so we know how difficult it is. with just this help from the government, it may just make their lives a little bit easier.
ReplyDeleteQuestion:If given the option, do you think most farmers would switch to the alternative energy sources, why or why not?
Answer: Yes, I think they should becasue it will help them out in the future. our fossil fuel are not going to be here forever, so farms should make the switch now. It will save them money in the future and eventually they will make more money. Overall, I think this is a very good topic and i strongly sugggest we help out our farms.
I don't think we focus enough on how important farming is to our life. It's good that Obama has taken the time to let us all know how much we rely on the produce given to us by farming. In regards to the renewable energy, it's the same as with farming. It's great that people are stepping up and showing others just how important it is that we find renewable energy, and that it will help us turn what we've done to the earth around.

1. Yes. All farmers understand that they do use a lot of energy when it comes to what they do and if they were to switch they would be giving us something we need, while giving the earth something it needs.
2. It seems like people are finally realize what is possible. I think that in a few decades, maybe less, we could have found a good renewable energy source.
3. I do think farming is incredibly important to our lifestyle, however, finding alternative energy that is affordable does seem to be one of the more important things to work out.
This proclamation is interesting and i definitely think that it is worthwhile. Over the years, the infrastructure of many regions has advanced and adapted to the new, technological era. However, people often forget that the roots of our new industries began based off of agricultural imports and exports. As cities continue overcoming rural locations, i think that devotion to this proclamation will drastically preserve our country.

1) If given the option, do you think most farmers would switch to the alternative energy sources, why or why not?
Yes, and i would certainly hope so! I think that, given the opportunity, the majority of our entire population would turnover a new leaf & switch to alternative energy sources. If they were proven to be equally as efficient, then definitely yes!
2) How far away do you think we are from achieving some of the goals listed in this summary?
Even if it's simply another baby step, advancement towards these goals is vital. I think that as the need for these resources increases, the pace toward discovery will also increase. I believe that within 20 years, someone will come up with something brilliant to fulfill some of the goals listed.
3) Do you think Barack Obama should be focussing on more productive ways to help our energy economy then helping farms?
I think that both are important, since they walk hand in hand with each other in sustaining a healthy environment. Therefore, I think that he's doing the best that he can!
I think that this will benifit farmers, and I also think that farmers do not get the credit they deserve. They give us alot of our food and need more recognition for it.
ReplyDeleteQuestions:
1 - I think that they would considering the pollution from some energy sources could effect their famrs
2 - Pretty close I believe, if we really put alot of effort into it we could achive these goals in the next 10-20 years
3 - I think starting with farms and small things will benifit more, if there are any flaws involved it can be taken care of alot more efficiently.
